Victorian figuerd oak partners desk circa 1895
This figured oak partners desk has a vintage vegetable dyed brown/black leather cowhide writing surface, with blind embosssed tooling. The top is fitted with 3 drawers either side, and 3 further drawers to each pedestal, with fitted locking cupboards on the reverse side. The drawers and cupboards are mahogany lined, (which is unusual and a sign of quality). They have fine hand-cut dovetails, and tuned ebony knobs.
This is a very handsome desk, made using quarter cut oak with beautiful medullary rays to the sides and drawers, making the medium oak grain really stand out beautifully, the ebony knobs add interest and contrast.
The cowhide leather has some marks and scuffs as to be expected, but has a lovely patina which only adds to the desks character.
The desk originally came from Brintons Carpets Of Kidderminster, and was part of the antique furniture collection from their executive offices, most of the collection was Gillows stamped and although this is unstamped the desk is very well made and exudes craftmanship and quality. This desk belonged to the CEO.
